Tataki Sushi - great sushi/ no guilt

Last night we tried a new sushi recommendation recommended to us by our friend Chris Apicella. It is Tataki Sushi Bar on Divisidero near California. Tataki bills itself as "San Francisco's sustainable sushi restaurant". All of its fish is source from sustainable methods, meaning that any overfished traditional sushi fare is not on the menu.

Sustainability means that many of your favorites are missing such as unagi, octopus, hamachi and of course bluefin toro. Tataki requires verification that the fish they are buying is harvested in a sustainable manner. They follow guidelines set by several fish conservatories such as the Monterrey Bay aquarium.

So what is on the menu? Fabulous items such as artic char, amberjack, and Alaskan snow crab. We had nigiri of each of these and the quality of fish was outstanding. Each fish melted in our mouth. We also had a great appetizer; Baked Sanma with sea salt. Their rolls are fabulous as well. We had the extinguisher, which is spicy amberjack topped withavocado, habanero masago, and hot sauce and it arrives with a fire on the plate, fun!

Here are the seafood guides that you can refer to should you wish to watch what you eat:
