Last night we went to see the Sisters Morales play down in Brisbane at Club 23. David and Carla Bullitt joined us as did Paul Erlicht and two of his friends. For those of you not in the know, Brisbane is just 10 minutes south of San Francisco. It is a small town that reminds you of a small town out in the middle of California, and is sometimes hard to believe that it is so close to San Francisco. It is a blue collar town with lots of characters.
Club 23 is an old bar that has a rich musical history. Since the 1950s, Club 23 has been blasting the music of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Webb Pierce, Bob Wills, Hank Snow, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and many, many more - all live and in person. There are still pictures of these bands on the wall. The new ownership has brought more of a latin american feeling as the owner is Bolivian and he hosts salsa merengue dance nights.
The Sisters Morales were great as always. This concludes a three week tour, and they are headed back to Texas. Their life must be fun, but exhausting. Traveling in a van around the country going bar to bar, gig to gig, must get tiring, particularly with two small kids. We look forward seeing them on their next trip out here.
