Christmas Eve Dinner

This is the first year that we have stayed in San Francisco for Christmas and the holidays in general. Kelly's parents joined us for a few days and arrived in time for Christmas Eve dinner. Todd and Lydia also were able to join us for the evening.

For the evening, Kelly cooked up quite a feast. We had smoked salmon, dungeness crab, and a great pie from Mission Pie. We have posted a copy of our menu here (Click on it if it is too small for you to read).

We also served some spectacular wines. The 2006 Domaine Weinbach Riesling Grand Cru Schlossberg Cuvée. Was truly outstanding. The great Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Château Gigognan that was on the menu but did not make it out until Christmas dinner as we added another bottle of red wine as well as a bottle of Veuve Clicquot to our Christmas Eve dinner.

It was a great evening of great food, booze, family, and friends.

two great wines

We recently drank two great wines from opposite ends of the pricing spectrum. First was the Ladera Howell Mountain 2004 ($65). Fantastic wine. Deep ruby-red. Classic Howell Mountain cabernet from a ripe year.

The second wine is a bargain. We found it at Costco for $7.99! Pascual Toso Malbec, 2006. We also saw it at K & L for $8.99. You need to run, not walk to get more of this while possible. Very drinkable, everyday wine. Wine Enthusiast gave it a 91.
