Crown Wine Cellars Hong Kong

On a business trip, I (Jose) was invited to visit a private wine club, Crown Wine Cellars, located in Shouson Hill, a suburb on Hong Kong Island. Crown Wine Cellars has six underground cellars and a private members clubhouse comprised of two underground bunkers as well as a newly constructed conservatory.

The original structures were constructed almost 70 years ago by the British Military to serve as an ammunition and weapons storage depot in preparation for World War II. The site was originally known as the Central Ordnance (Munitions) Depot, and included 24 underground Bunkers, of which only 8 remain.

We had a lovely dinner, and the highlight of the evening was the Meerlust Rubicon from South Africa. It is a Bordeaux blend, Cabernet Sauvignon dominated, with Merlot and Cabernet Franc filling in the balance. The wine is a surprising value as well.
