San Francisco Green Fair

Yesterday we went to the green fair in San Francisco. Is an expo that shows off all things green oriented. Everything is there from hemp clothing to green investment firms to green foods to solar power. We saw cool bags for work or groceries made from a variety of recycled products including bike tubes, tires, and water bottles. The design of these bags, like many of the items at the fair, was sometimes great, sometimes not. Many green food and drink manufacturers where there as well providing samples. We were able to sample some great acai and pomagranite based drinks.

Green is getting more mainstream, but it is still not there. This event has many mainstream type organizations selling their wares or pushing their services, but the overall vibe is still a hippy sit-in. There are plenty of anti-capitalists, of course selling their products as well, which is, um... capitalism. You also had your anti-war groups, your vegan groups, and many other special interest groups. Clearly the politics of the show was very leftest. Some very far to the left. In order for green products to succeed in both market penetration and positive effect on the environment, they need to appeal to broader market than just the liberal intellectual. The good thing is that I saw many products that will, and I am seeing many of these products getting into mainstream distribution channels such as grocery stores, etc. Go green.
